8TH World Congress on Coloured Sheep
May 19-22, 2014
France
The World Congress on Coloured Sheep is a gathering of people interested in natural colored sheep and the fiber and products they produce. With less than a year until the 8th World Congress on Coloured Sheep begins, it’s time to start making plans to attend the congress in Paris and Rambouillet, France. The first World Congress on Coloured Sheep began in 1979 in Adelaide, Australia. Natural colored sheep and wool enthusiasts have met every five years since then in countries around the world: Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, United States, and Brazil. In 2014 the 8th World Congress on Coloured Sheep will convene at the Mercure Porte d’Orleans Hotel in Paris, France, with one day in Rambouillet, France, May 19-22, 2014. Speakers will cover all aspects of colored sheep from genetics and breeding, health and management, to processing, marketing, and fiber arts. The fee has not been set yet, but is expected to be about 300 Euros, depending on how many people register.
The 7 day post congress tour will begin in Paris, France on May 23, 2014 and travel through Orleans, Arles, Gap, Valence and Lyon. The highlights of the tour are visits to sheep flocks, a Roquefort cheese processor, the museum of the Merino breed, the Wools of Europe headquarters, and a wool processing cooperative while enjoying the beautiful countryside of France. The cost of the tour is estimated at 1025-1249 Euros.
Dawie du Toit, who has coordinated the plans with the French organizing committee, is accepting proposals and papers to include in the proceedings book and to be presented at the congress. If you have a paper you would like included, you can contact him at mwdatru@iafrica.com. Editing the proceedings book is a long process, necessitating the need to have papers submitted well in advance.
For North Americans interested in attending the congress, please contact Rolly Thompson, kusiwarmi13@gmail.com or 30781 Fox Hollow Rd., Eugene, Oregon 97405. The time is fast approaching when the committee will need to give the hotel hosting the congress a committed number of attendees. Congress registration fees are the sole source of financing for the congress.
